"I think people probably perceive me as Asian."

"It frustrates me that my race might give people preconceived notions of what I'm like or what I should be like. On the other hand, when I do fit into those preconceived notions, I wonder if I'm trying to conform or if that's just who I really am. If I'm quiet, is it because Asian girls are supposed to be quiet, or am I actually a quiet person? It frustrates me that my race makes me second guess myself."

"Being an Asian American at Duke has made me think more carefully about how I present myself, especially in environments where I am the only or one of few Asians in the room. I think about whether I should try to act similarly to everyone else, or if differences between me and others are due to my race or just my personality."
